One of the questions I get the most about living in the Dominican Republic is, “How is the healthcare over there?” It is a fair question. When you move abroad, your peace of mind is everything, and knowing what to expect from the medical system can make the transition so much smoother.

The good news is that the DR has a healthcare system that works surprisingly well for expats, once you understand how it is structured. Healthcare here is a mix of public hospitals, private hospitals, specialty clinics, and a growing number of expat friendly facilities that offer excellent care at a fraction of what you would pay in the U.S.
